5 Simple Ways To Neaten up Your Living Room
The living room is one of the most important rooms in the house, especially now during a global pandemic, it’s likely that you may be using your living room for work as well as relaxing, playing games sitting on your comfortable gaming chair and watching television with family. Other than the bedroom, the living room is the room we spend the most time in and as such, it can get messy and cluttered rather quickly.
While you’ll never have a completely clean living room for long, life happens, eventually you’ll leave a glass of water on the side, your kids will leave toys around the room and magazines or newspapers can quickly pile up on your coffee table, but you can still keep things neat and tidy in your living room.
Now, you’re probably asking yourself how you can neaten up your living room. Well, you’re in luck, as today we’ll be sharing a few tips on how you can keep your living room looking neater than usual.
- Improve Your Storage Options
First on our list of tips, is to have better storage options in your living room, simply having somewhere to store those pesky items that always find themselves strewn across your living room, that doesn’t require you going across the house to get everything back in it’s place.
Whether you have a child that leaves toys around the room, a DVD collection that is dotted around your television unit or a library of books littered on your coffee table, having a storage option in your living room will make things much easier to keep tidy.
Having somewhere in your living room to store all of these problem items will make your life much easier. For toys, a simple toy crate in your living room will suffice. Then, for books and DVDs having a bookshelf or a floating shelf to store them in will help reduce the clutter in your living room.
- Neaten Up Your Curtains
While curtains aren’t un-tidy by themselves, just having your curtains hanging down to the floor when opened can look a bit scruffy and as the curtain rests on the floor it will pick up dirt and dust from the ground which will result in you needing to wash your curtains.
So, to keep your curtains neat and tidy, you should invest in a new set of curtain tie backs, these are little fabric loops that attach to the wall either side of a set of curtains, which then hold the curtains open to the side rather than having them drape on the floor.
They’re easy to pick up when you buy a set of curtains and can usually be made in the same fabric as your curtain, so this will help your interior décor as well as the general ‘neatness’ of your living room.
- No Shoes In The Living Room
Wearing shoes indoors is an easy way to track dirt through your home, especially in the living room where you’ll likely have carpeted floors, so coming in from the outside with shoes on and walking around the room is a surefire way to dirty up your nice living room carpet.
Simply by having a shoe rack at the entry way for your living room is an easy way to keep shoes off in the living room and you’ll notice that just by virtue of not wearing shoes that your carpet will look cleaner and require cleaning less often.
- No Food In The Living Room
If your living room is regularly home to empty crisp packets, half eaten bowls of cereal and various food stains, it’s time to enact a ‘No Food’ Policy in your living room to help keep the room looking nice and neat.
By not eating in the living room, you won’t have to worry about food wrappers or crumps dirtying up your living space, if you need a snack, simply eat it in your kitchen where it’s easier to dispose of and then return to the living room. After a while you’ll revel in your living room knowing it’s ever so cleaner.
